This cannula has a laser connected to its tip. By activating the laser, Dr. Sorokin is able to easily break down fat cells and then suction them out through the cannula. Some cosmetic surgeons only use the traditional liposuction method that requires the doctor to manually break up fat cells by moving the cannula aggressively back and forth under the skin. By causing less trauma to surrounding tissue, SmartLipo makes liposuction safer and much less invasive.
In addition to causing less disruption under the skin than other liposuction methods, the SmartLipo laser coagulates small blood vessels at the treatment site, greatly reducing the amount of bleeding and swelling that can occur. Recovery Following Laser Liposuction
Dr. Sorokin's patients appreciate the quick recovery that SmartLipo makes possible. Because the procedure uses only local anesthesia, patients do not face the risk of complications sometimes associated with general anesthesia. And because so little adjacent tissue is disrupted, less bleeding, bruising, and swelling occur. You need to avoid strenuous physical activity for about a week, though Dr. Sorokin encourages walking and light exercise as soon as possible following the procedure.
