A Not-So-Plain Jane: Tina's New Jersey Breast Augmentation
Tina is a 33-year-old surgical technician. Her job involves preparing and maintaining the sterile operating room environment for each patient case—including equipment, instruments and supplies—and assisting with surgery. She enjoys the variety in her work. "It seems like I've assisted with just about every kind of procedure—from orthopedic surgery to hangnails," she laughs.
Unlike most women, Tina has had the opportunity to be actively involved in many breast augmentation procedures at New Jersey hospitals and outpatient centers, and she's had the chance to work alongside several cosmetic surgeons in New Jersey. When she decided she was ready for the procedure herself three years ago, she chose Dr. Evan Sorokin.
"My Gift to Myself"
"I always felt somewhat uncomfortable with my shape," Tina recalls. "Everyone in my family had breasts except my sister and me." Working in the medical field in New Jersey, she knew breast implants were safe and she had been thinking about getting them for years. After her pregnancy seven years ago, Tina became more interested. She had experienced what it was like to have ample breasts when she grew to be a size DD, but then shrank back down to her old A/B self after giving birth to her son.
What's worse than losing the size, Tina relates, was the shape her breasts were in after her pregnancy. "I had plenty of skin, but no breast tissue left," she comments. Explaining what it's like to look essentially empty, Tina says, "I don't mean to be gross, but when I would lean over it looked like two socks were hanging down from my chest." Tina wanted to start planning for surgery, but her husband wasn't supportive.
Soon after her son was born, it became apparent to Tina her marriage wasn't going to blossom into the healthy relationship she had hoped it could be. Though it would be a challenge, she decided that starting over as a single mom was the right move. Several months later, she talked to Dr. Sorokin about breast augmentation. "It was my gift to myself," she says, "for being brave."
New Jersey Breast Enlargement Designed Just for Tina
Dr. Sorokin listened to Tina and created a surgical plan that had her feeling eager to move forward. "When I went to see him I was a size 4," she recalls. "I wanted to be able to fill out shirts and bras, but still look normal and balanced. I told him I didn't want one of those ‘shelf chests.' I wanted to be able to see my feet." Dr. Sorokin's surgical goal was to refill Tina's empty skin and bring her back up to a size C/D. He and Tina decided on saline breast implants, and Dr. Sorokin recommended 360 cc's for one side and 370 cc's for the other.
In spite of the saggy skin Tina saw in the mirror every day, Dr. Sorokin felt she didn't need a breast lift. That led to one of the most exciting aspects of the surgical plan in Tina's view. "Dr. Sorokin felt he could make the incisions in my armpits, and he located them within a natural crease. I have no visible scars at all," Tina says.
Recovery and Beyond
Recovery from surgery was routine. Tina stayed in town the first 24 hours just to be safe, then she joined her sister and her family in the Poconos to rest and enjoy some time away. "We played games and cards and I basically relaxed," she remembers. "I didn't tolerate the pain medication well, so the day after surgery I switched to ibuprofen." Tina says she felt moderate discomfort over the weekend, but she was back to work and feeling pretty good on Monday, just four days after surgery. She recalls she tired more easily than usual, and her upper body strength didn't return completely for about a month.
Three years later Tina is still thrilled with her results. "I have had no problems at all," she says. "My breasts look normal, not huge. They're very equal in size, and my nipples are in alignment with each other."
An Inspiration to Others
In spite of her naturally down-to-earth, humble nature, Tina has found herself an inspiration to others. When a surgical team she's working with prepares to operate, many of the women get changed together. "Some of them say I have a great figure, and you wouldn't believe how many have asked to touch my breasts. I really don't mind, I know they're curious. Three women who have seen my results decided to go to Dr. Sorokin themselves. Oh, and my sister makes four."
"My new curves have given me more self-confidence," Tina says. "If you know breast augmentation can do that for you, then go for it." But, she cautions, you need to do it for yourself. "I'm like your ordinary Jane, minus the plain!" she exclaims. "I'm a mom and a regular career person. I didn't do this for my job, or for a man. I did it for me."
Tina also says that doing some homework is the best way for New Jersey and Philadelphia area women to prepare for breast augmentation. "Doctors are just like everyone else, they have different reasons for doing what they do. I thought a lot about it before I decided to go with Dr. Sorokin. I knew I could shop around and maybe save a few dollars. But I had seen his work and I knew it was good. I am extremely pleased."
