The Laser Tattoo Removal Procedure
The Accolade is a Q-switched Alexandrite laser that emits short, fast pulses of a single wavelength of light. The Accolade spot size can be adjusted from narrow to wide for increased precision. When directed at the tattoo, the laser energy harmlessly passes through the outer skin and is readily absorbed by the tattoo ink, breaking it down into particles. The body's natural processes eliminate these small ink particles over the course of about 6 weeks.
While laser tattoo removal is not pain free, treatments typically feel similar to the original tattooing procedure. The degree of pain you feel will depend on the location of the tattoo and its size. After a single treatment, most tattoos are noticeably lighter. However, a series of treatments spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart is usually required to completely remove a tattoo. Red and black inks are the easiest to eliminate. After Dr. Sorokin has removed your tattoo, it is permanently erased.
To avoid hyperpigmentation, it's important to have laser tattoo removal when the skin is not tanned. You also will need to avoid sun exposure while the treated skin is healing.
