Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing

The outer layer of our skin bears the brunt of all that nature has to offer. But rest assured that fresh, healthy skin is waiting just underneath the surface of your face. Like many of our New Jersey patients, you'll be happy to learn that harsh textures, discolorations, and irregularities you see in the mirror are only a mask covering healthier facial skin. Luckily, there is a way to quickly and safely access this untainted skin and encourage the growth of new, revitalized skin on any part of your face.

Many busy New Jersey men and women choose laser skin resurfacing to create a new, smooth skin appearance through a short, relatively painless procedure. The laser "ablates," or destroys, the outer layers of your skin that have been damaged by age, sun, acne, wrinkles, or pigmentation problems or spots. Destruction of the older layers of skin prompts the body to generate a new layer of skin cells that are unaffected by the previous skin condition. Note that some lasers may be inappropriate for darker skin complexions.

To learn more about laser skin resurfacing, call 856-797-0202 to schedule an appointment with New Jersey cosmetic surgeon Dr. Sorokin, a board-certified plastic surgery specialist at Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery. The office is a short drive from many cities, including Philadelphia, as well as Mt. Laurel, Cherry Hill, Medford, and Berlin, New Jersey. Plastic surgery, while offering longer-lasting correction, may be delayed or avoided through use of this treatment. Set up an appointment with Dr. Sorokin today.

Reasons for Considering Laser Skin Resurfacing

This procedure is a great choice for our patients to:

  • Reduce or remove facial wrinkles, creases, and lines
  • Improve sun-damaged skin
  • Correct pigmentation problems and spots
  • Effectively treat scars from acne, birthmarks, moles, and tattoos
  • Tighten skin that has lost elasticity due to aging

The Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure

To begin the procedure, Dr. Sorokin cleanses your face of oils and applies an antibiotic ointment. The laser is then used to ablate the top few layers of skin in a controlled manner until the appropriate depth of skin is reached. The procedure commonly is performed with a local anesthetic, with or without sedation.

Recovery Following Laser Skin Resurfacing

Dr. Sorokin's post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Additional antibiotic cream and bandages are applied to the affected area immediately following surgery in order to aid with the healing process, minimize swelling, and control the risk of infection. The skin will be red and may ooze for a period of time. Some discomfort should also be expected, and is controlled with oral medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the post-operative directions. Recovery time varies based on the extent of the resurfacing and the number of procedures completed.
