You've worked hard to eat right and exercise, but unsightly fat deposits still creep up in unwelcome places on your hips, stomach, arms, or legs. Some books and articles may suggest that targeted exercise in these regions will burn the fat or keep it from forming. However, these fat deposits are largely genetically-determined, so while diet and exercise may help to minimize fat tissue development, in many cases surgical methods are needed to give smooth, slimmer proportions to our patients from Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Liposuction (or lipoplasty) is a body-sculpting procedure to remove fat that is unresponsive to diet and exercise. This procedure can be applied to nearly any area of the body, including love handles, saddlebags, a double chin, bulges around the waistline, or other unsightly fatty deposits. In many cases, patients opt to target multiple areas during one procedure. If you are within your ideal weight range but still have small areas of unwanted fat, learn more about SmartLipo™, making liposuction easier than ever before.

Reasons for Considering Liposuction in New Jersey

Many individuals in the Tri-State area with stubborn fat deposits have found that liposuction surgery is a great way to dramatically alter their appearance. The procedure can create a better-proportioned figure and eliminate fat from many areas including:

  • Chin and neckline
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Stomach and waistline
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Thighs and knees

You should remember that this procedure is not a replacement for proper exercise and diet. Instead, it is used to target areas where stubborn fat accumulates. Want more specifics? Detailed Info on Your Liposuction Options

The Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction may be performed under general anesthesia while you are asleep, or under local anesthesia where the targeted area is numbed and you remain awake. Through a tiny incision, Dr. Sorokin inserts a narrow tube or "cannula" under the skin and begins to vacuum out subdermal fatty tissue. Dr. Sorokin determines the amount of fat to be removed by massaging the skin and squeezing the tissue. After eliminating excess fat, the incisions are closed by applying a compression dressing or bandage to the area in order to prevent bleeding, reduce swelling, and support the affected area. The surgery itself lasts between thirty minutes to a few hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed.

Dr. Sorokin uses several different methods, such as suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), power-assisted liposuction (PAL), ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL), and the latest advancement in liposuction: SmartLipo™. In fact, he is the first surgeon in Southern New Jersey to offer the minimally-invasive, minimal downtime SmartLipo™ procedure. New Jersey and Philadelphia liposuction patients find that these new procedures result in less pain and can speed recovery. During your consultation, Dr. Sorokin will discuss with you which method or methods are best for your body type and for the treatment areas. In almost every case, patients are amazed by how smooth and even their skin appears after full recovery from the procedure.

Recovery Following Liposuction in New Jersey

While length of recovery depends on how extensive of an operation the patient undergoes, new techniques allow for faster recovery after a liposuction procedure than ever before. Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. You will need to wear a support garment for several weeks after the surgery, depending upon which areas have been targeted for liposuction. New Jersey and Philadelphia patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery which can be treated effectively through over-the-counter medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk of potential problems by carefully following the directions given after surgery.
